Crocodile Soup at Dian Xiao Er

Tue 8 Sep 2010

Was having a bad cough for past few days.
Even the puff was not working so mummy decided to keep me at home so that she can bring me to the doctor.

but even after taking the new medicine, my cough was equally bad.

Evening, my papa brought us to
Dian Xiao Er.

photo taken from www.dianxiaoer.net

"Are we in China?" I asked Papa.

Diao Xiao Er is famous for its roast duck, which is really yummy according to my parents,
(I try to avoid eating duck and chicken because they causes phlegm.)
but we were not there for the duck.

We were there for the crocodile soup.
Do you know that crocodile meat is great for cough?

well... my parents decided to let me give it a try and...
wala!
I stopped coughing immediately after drinking the soup.
I didn't really like the taste, though. My parents forced cajoled me to drink it and also added it to my rice.

Believe it or not, next time u have a cough, try crocodile soup!
It's great for asthma too.
"根据中医的说法,鳄鱼肉有平喘化痰、止咳润肺的功效。"
click read more about crocodile meat and its effects.

pss... Diao Xiao Er also has stir fried crocodile meat.

Royston Tan's Old Places - location #3 Ghee Leong Bakery

not hann but hann's mummy said...

3. Sing Hon Loong Bakery 新丰隆面包厂
aka Ghee Leong
Address: 4 Whampoa Drive
Tel: 6256 0878

First Day Food Fest: Part 4 of 4., originally uploaded by Reinar.

I actually copied the name of the shop as "Ghee Fong" and when I did a search on the net, I couldn't find this bakery.

Then I recalled that my sister, mikan, blogged about this bakery before and when I looked it up, the name of this bakery is Sing Hon Loong Bakery which is miles away from "Ghee Fong".

Check out their mosaic floor tiles.

Quite a few people wrote about Sin Hon Loong but I wasn't sure if Sin Hon Loong's the one featured in "Old Places" until I saw this photo:photo taken from curiosityfillsthecat.blogspot.com

So Sin Hon Loong is its official name while Ghee Leong is the nickname?

photo taken from curiosityfillsthecat.blogspot.com

mmm... wanta try out their kaya guyu bread though the review from curiosityfillsthecat.blogspot.com
is not great.

again, I've not been to any bread factories cos like coffee powder, we had an uncle who delivers bread to our door steps.
We can him Loti Zek (Bread Uncle).
He carries a large metal box and would walk along the corridors selling bread of all kinds.
In his later years, he can't walk so much so he would park his van in the carpark downstairs and we'll go and buy bread from him.
That was more than 10 years ago and I wonder how is he doing now.

Healthy Gummies

Those who know my mummy, you know she doesn't give me junk food such as sweets, etc, cos she thinks they make me cough.

so don't give me
neon worms
which contains lotsa colouring,

nor these
dino gummies
which appear to be healthier but actually still just empty calories and sugars.
(Just as organic lolly pops are still lolly pops - balls of sugar.
Dunno why some people think it's any better)

If you must give me Gummies, give me this:

Fiber Gummies.
sugar-free with natural fruit flavors

or this:
Vidaylin MiniBear Gummies
contains goodness of 5 garden vegetables: carrot, tomato, artichoke, spinach and beetroot, known to have important antioxidant nutrients such as
Vitamin C, Vitamin E, beta carotene, calcium, iron & zinc.

Think the latter 2 will be more acceptable for my mummy.

Petals and Leaves

The Petals & Leaves, originally uploaded by lastboltnut.

It's an alfresco cafe in nursery.

From Pavilion, originally uploaded by lastboltnut.

There's also a pavilion apart from the main dinning area where you can dine at.

Hann, originally uploaded by lastboltnut.

Me playing handphone games while waiting for the food to arrive.
btw, That's the only time I'm allowed to play handphone games.

Fried Mango Prawn!, originally uploaded by lastboltnut.

Starter for my parents: Fried Mango Prawn
Papa's verdict: This appetizer has crispy crust, but the prawn is very dry and too chewy...it will be good if the prawn is juicy and the mango taste is more discernible.
Though Mummy quite liked it.

Beef Stew, originally uploaded by lastboltnut.

Beef Stew for Mummy.
Yummy!

She regretted changing the rice to brown rice though. Thought it will be nicer with white rice and wished they had more Carrots n celery in the stew.

Rosemary Chicken, originally uploaded by lastboltnut.

Rosemary Chicken for papa.
Papa thinks the sauce is good and the chicken is juicy and well marinated.
"A good catch" he said.
though he didn't fancy the large serving of "naked" salad, fresh from the farm.

Kid Meal - Pizza, originally uploaded by lastboltnut.

Also with a huge portion of farm fresh salad is my kids' pizza.

Enjoys!, originally uploaded by lastboltnut.

Cheeeeeesssssy!

the crust's too thick though.
I didn't finish the whole mini pizza.
Think I should order something else next time.

Feeding Time!, originally uploaded by lastboltnut.

I was lucky cos it was feeding time for the fish in the pond next to the cafe so I got to feed them!
See how excited they are, jumping out of the water for their food.

A Pond, originally uploaded by lastboltnut.

Before going off, we took a walk around GardenAsia.
Super nice!
a bit too sunny though.
Do go earlier in the morning.

You can get potted plants there too.

Do note the opening hours of the bistro:

Mon- Tue - CLOSED
Wed – 11am – 6pm (Luncheons/High Tea)
Thurs – 11am – 6pm (Luncheons/High Tea)

Ichiban Sushi

Went to Ichiban Sushi at HDB Hub, Toa Payoh.

Yummy Hotpot beef and tofu for my parents in the foreground.
See me so happy with my children's set meal.

let's see what's inside.

Yum!

Happy Birthday, Hong Ah Yi!
I happily shared my cake with her.

Pardon the not-so-good photos.
Mummy's not used to her new camera.

Click on the picture below to Check out the kid's meals at Ichiban Sushi:

Papa realised why there's a long queue for the restaurant -
the food's really nice and price is very reasonable for a japanese restaurant.

Made my papa lost his appetite.

We ordered...
Teriyaki Chicken Pizza

and Salmon 蛋包饭 (Omelette Rice).

The food's nice.
but the place's really too warm
and very crowded.
be prepared to wait.

BakerzIn: august promotion

Bakerzin is having a 50% off their Classic Desserts in August!
Mummy and I enjoying their warm chocolate cake.

We went back the next week for their $13.80 set menu.
Available at all Bakerzin
except VivoCity and Paragon

but somehow, we ended up ordering from the ala carte menu:

Pork Chop with Potatoes (and Mushroom)
Nice but too oily.
Ask for less oil if u're ordering this.

Macau Pork Bun
Nice! though not very Macau.
I love the soft bun!

From the kids' menu: burger!

We didn't know they have free flow bread with Main course, soup or salad until we finished our main course.

Must say the service at United Sq's not fantastic.

Oh!
Found out that Bakerzin does cartoon characters' cakes too!
including my favourite Thomas!

Prata at Adam Road

All photos in this post are taken by me, Hann.

It was a cool evening and we decided to dine outdoors (i.e. coffeeshop or hawker centre).

We wanteda go to Upper Thomson but there was no parking space so we ended up in Adam Road Hawker Centre.

Halfway thru' my dinner, I asked Mummy for the camera.

Check out the kopicino. Nice, eh?

Seeing that I 难得 ask for the cam, Papa decided to pose for the photo.

Recently, I'm inspired to be like one of the famous wedding photographers...
Titling my cam at an angle.

we ate fish ball and roti prata.
Two of my favourite food.
I was so happy.
but...

at night, I had a bad cough.
Mummy think it's the oil they used for the prata.
so no more prata for me from Adam Road.
boohoohoo.

Mummy managed to catch me on her phone-cam on our way out.
Nothing nice on my camera cos it was rather dark so I couldn't get any nice shots

Salmon Pasta for Mummy and me

Guess what's this.

Talk about High-Tech.
This gadget is for you to bring to ya table and it'll beep when ya food is ready so you can collect them fom the counter.

The food at Tolido's is sooooo much better than that at the Science Centre.
so if you need food, Remember to walk over to Tolido's @ OmniTheatre instead.

Kenny Rogers 卖鸡的

Papa and I only went back to The Doll Affair when it was ending.

After packing up, my 3 bodyguards (aka Hann's angels) escorted me to
Kenny Rogers Roasters.

When some1 mentions "Kenny Rogers", what you will think of?

A. chicken with large servings of side dishes
B. the country songs singer

Your answer actually reflects ya age.

Mummy was very amusing when Rubbish-Yee said, "那个 卖鸡的"
when she mentioned Kenny Rogers.

Generation Gap.

I wonder what will I associate Kenny Rogers with next time.

after ordering my dinner,

I started reading...

all by myself!

Kenny Rogers Roasters is really a kid-friendly restaurant.
Besides the usual high chair,
they have this collection of books which are suitable for children.

I read all most entire Disney series.

Thanx, Belynda jiejie and Melody jiejie for reading to me after dinner.
